Dear Parish Family and Friends,

As a child the month of August was always a little difficult.  I knew that it was the end of something important.  It was the end of summer vacation.  Now, as a parent I see my children having similar feelings.  They know what is getting ready to begin…school!  With school just around the corner summer is almost over.  As an adult though I have come to realize that the end of something is really the beginning of something new.  The beauty of this is that with each beginning there is a chance to do something wonderful.

For us August and September mark the beginning of another year of ministry.  It marks the beginning of another chance to grow closer to Christ.  It marks another opportunity to grow closer to each other.  In the month of August we are reminded of this through the Feast of the Transfiguration.  Two important themes are brought out.  First, we are told who Christ is. “A voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’”  This feast reveals that Christ is not only a man but He is also one of the Trinity.  It reminds us that He is God’s “beloved Son” and we are to “listen to Him”.  The second idea is that this feast reveals much about us as well.  It shows that by listening to Him we become what we are meant to be…like Him.  Everything we do here in this Church points to this.  All of our worship services, sacraments, fellowship, and all the ministries serve to help us become transfigured.  They all help us to become like Him.

As we continue to enjoy our summer and prepare for it to end I want you to know that I look forward to another year of working with you.  I look forward to another year of discovering new ministries we can offer each other.  I look forward to another year of growing with you in Christ our Lord.

In Christ,

Father Larry
