On Sunday, March 26th 2017, our Greek School and the Greek Language Adult Class celebrated two important holidays. Every year on the 25th of March, the Greeks everywhere celebrate two important holidays. One is the religious solemnity of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary where Archangel Gabriel announced to Virgin Mary that she was God’s chosen one to bring into the world His Son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of mankind. The other holiday is a National one, when the Greeks were enslaved by the Turks for 400 years and on March 25th 1821 they revolted with whatever means they had and after a lengthy struggle with the dream of Freedom or Death, the Greeks won their Independence. We should all pay our respect and gratitude to the heroes who fought for the freedom of Greece and glorified the Greek Nation. The revolution of March 25th 1821 is a milestone for Hellenism and one of the most admired achievements of the Greeks.
The Greek Revolution may be over but constant vigilance is the price of Freedom. We pray today for our country and freedom loving people all over the universe and for a just and peaceful solution of the Cyprus problem, although the Republic of Cyprus in 2010 celebrated its 50th year since its foundation in 1960.
Our director with the Greek School Students presented the program of the Greek Independence Day with a doxology in church and the rest of the program in our Educational Building. We started with our National Anthems, Greek and American. Many thanks to our beautiful melodies of our Church and also our wonderful speaker Don Isenhath from the Greek Language Adult Class who spoke in Greek and in English. Congratulations to our students who recited poems, Theodora Mitsopoulos, Vasilia and Lukia Legakis, Savvas Moraitis and Mariam Xenofontos. We really enjoyed them, bravo. We also thank our altar boys, William McCullough, Grant and John Kopan who carried the cross and the fans and our Flag Bearers Alexander McCullough with the American, Theodora Mitsopoulos with the Greek and Nicholas Legakis the Cypriot. Many thanks to Joyce Anagnos who was in charge of the coffee hour and our Greek School parents who brought treats for the coffee hour. Also thanks to Cathy Andujar who helped serve the coffee. Thanks also to John Andujar and Joyce and George Anagnos who took our pictures. God Bless you all.
Happy Easter to all, Kalo Pascha, Kali Anastasi kai Hronia Polla.
